Five Myths About Female Fitness – What You Need to Know

Very often women will come to me and ask how they can achieve their desired level of fitness. What often surprises is them is that I then tell them the opposite of what they have read! There are many myths involved in the world of fitness – especially when it comes to women specifically – that need to be considered and dispelled, so here are five of the most common.

1: Exercise as Much as You Can

This very common myth applies to men as well as women. In fact, there is such a thing as too much exercise. The number of women who question me when at first I give them an easy time is quite amazing, but they soon see that I’m right, as too much is simply not good for you. It can raise – among other things – issues with hormones in women that are not at all helpful. I advise keeping to what is your optimum training level, at which you find a balance in terms of your physical fitness and how you feel after your training.

2: Eat As Much as You Like!

Hunger is a problem when you get into an exercise regime, as you are burning calories at a far greater rate than that you are used to. The result is that many women start to eat more than they should, as they believe it will be burnt away during a workout. The problem is that no matter how much you eat, your training will deal with it, and you’ll end up eating more, and more. Have a diet plan set for you, and stick to it.

3: Dieting Harder Helps with Your Fitness Regime

Following from the above, you need to eat well. That is, you need to make sure your diet has everything in there that is needed to help you attain your level of workout. Eating less to lose more weight will simply not work – it’s a combination of the right diet and the right exercise. Your trainer will work with you to find the balance.

4: You Must Come Away From the Gym Exhausted

There is no reason why you should be excessively tired after a workout. In fact, you should feel invigorated and ready to go! You and your trainer should be able to find your optimum training routine, one that leaves you tired – of course you will be – but not worn out, and one that also leaves you satisfied you’ve done a good job.

5: Only When You Sweat Have You Worked Out Hard Enough

In a way, this is another version of the above, and while you may sweat when working out, it’s not a sign of success; it’s simply your body doing what it does and helping cool you down. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need to sweat, or that it helps in any way.

These are a few of the main myths around fitness training and women, so have another look, and work with a reputable trainer to get the best results.
